Poppy & Jamie
Some weddings just have that extra bit of magic, and Poppy & Jamie’s special day at Hidden River Barns was certainly one of them. Nestled in the heart of the Cumbrian countryside, this rustic yet elegant venue set the perfect stage for a wedding brimming with love, laughter, and a few happy tears (okay, maybe more than a few!).
Poppy originally booked us As her Hidden River barn Wedding Videography, and in a fun twist of fate, she later became the bar manager at the very same venue! From bride-to-be to part of the Hidden River cabins team, it was a full-circle moment that made this wedding even more special.
The morning was a beautiful blend of excitement and anticipation. With seven or eight cozy log cabins spread across the grounds, both Poppy and Jamie had their own spaces to prepare for the day ahead. Surrounded by their bridesmaids and groomsmen, they spent the morning sharing laughter, stories, and those final deep breaths before saying, “I do.”
Jamie was the first to make his way to the barn, greeting guests as they arrived and keeping his nerves in check—at least for a little while. But as soon as Poppy began her walk down the aisle, those emotions came flooding in.
If there was ever a moment to tug at the heartstrings, this was it. Jamie was a total wreck (in the best way possible!) as he watched his bride make her way toward him. But even his emotions were outmatched by Poppy’s dad, who simply couldn’t hold back the tears. As he reached the top of the aisle, he took Poppy and Jamie’s hands and brought them together, barely managing to contain the overwhelming love and pride he felt in that moment.
It was a scene straight out of a movie—raw, real, and utterly unforgettable.
After the ceremony, Poppy and Jamie kicked off the celebrations with an epic confetti line outside the barn. With our cameras rolling both from the ground and above via our drone, the results were nothing short of spectacular—colourful, joyous, and full of life.
As the drinks reception got underway, a very special guest arrived: Gus, the bride and groom’s Labrador puppy! Bouncy, excitable, and particularly intrigued by the passing canapés, Gus was every bit as thrilled as the guests to be part of the day.
Up on the barn’s upper balcony, a soft play area had been set up for the kids, complete with a ball pit that quickly became the site of a full-scale battle. Plastic balls rained down on the unsuspecting ‘grown-ups’ below, who wasted no time in launching them right back up again. The whole thing felt like a health-and-safety-approved version of the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan, and it was absolutely brilliant to witness.
With the party in full swing, we stole Poppy and Jamie away for some intimate shots by the venue’s namesake—the Hidden River. The raging white waters provided a stunning backdrop as the newlyweds soaked in a few quiet moments together. They were so relaxed and fun to work with, even throwing handfuls of golden autumn leaves into the air, laughing as they cascaded down around them. It was pure, unscripted joy, and it showed in every frame we captured.
Instead of a traditional cake-cutting, Poppy, Jamie, and their three adorable kids took a far more entertaining approach: spoons in hand, they dived straight in, attacking the cake with abandon. We filmed from every angle, even managing to capture a spoon’s-eye view with our trusty GoPro. It was messy, hilarious, and a delicious antidote to a sometimes overly formal tradition.
As the evening drew in, heartfelt speeches brought more laughter and tears. Family and friends shared stories of Poppy and Jamie’s journey together, and when Jamie stood for his final speech, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house—including ours.
But if emotions were running high, the entertainment soon sent the energy soaring. The Summa Ferguson Agency delivered a jaw-dropping lineup of performers, including stilt walkers, aerial gymnasts, and champagne hostesses with glowing drinks trays. But the true showstopper? Fire breathers.
These two incredible performers lit up the night, sending plumes of fire into the sky. And for the most cinematic shot of the night, they flanked Poppy and Jamie as the couple shared a kiss. On the count of three, two, one—two enormous fireballs erupted on either side, bathing them in a spectacular, golden glow. It was so breathtaking we couldn’t resist using it both at the beginning and the end of the final wedding film.
With the formalities done, Poppy and Jamie took to the dancefloor for their first dance… though it wasn’t long before their youngest stole the spotlight. Clearly deciding that he should be the center of attention, he spun and flailed his way into the limelight, much to the delight of Matt who could NOT stop laughing!
The rest of the evening was a whirlwind of dancing, laughter, and all-out revelry. We captured some incredible dance floor carnage—moves were busted, shapes were thrown, and a rug was well and truly cut. It ALWAYS helps to have an amazing host and DJ on side for the evening and Simon Vogt Wedding, the Hidden River wedding DJ extraordinaire that he is, made sure everyone was exhausted from boogying!
Looking back, Poppy and Jamie’s Autumn Hidden River wedding was easily one of the most beautiful, fun, and spectacular celebrations we’ve ever had the privilege of capturing. Every detail, from the heartfelt moments to the wild performances, made for an unforgettable day.
