Calum and Lucy’s wedding at Stratton Court Barn was a day packed with personality, surprises, and a whole lot of fun. From unimpressed cats to surprise bagpipes and a horse named Bertie, it was the kind of wedding where you never quite knew what was coming next—but you knew it was going to be a great set of photos/films.
We kicked off the day with Calum at home, where he was getting ready with the casual supervision of his two cats. They were clearly not thrilled about a couple of strangers wandering around their space snapping photos of their human, but their disapproving glares definitely added a bit of comedy to the morning shots. Calum, on the other hand, was cool as a cucumber, which made him a breeze to film. When it came time to get suited up, though, he turned into a full-on fashionista. He and the groomsmen were decked out in traditional Scottish attire—kilts, sporrans, and even those little sock knives (which we now know are called sgian-dubhs, thanks to a crash course from Calum). At one point, he launched into a detailed tutorial on how a sporran should be properly hung, shaking his head at us heathen English for not knowing better. It was pure comedy gold and made for some great behind-the-scenes footage.
When Calum arrived at the venue, so did the first big surprise of the day: a bagpiper, booked by his mum as a nod to his Scottish heritage. The look on his face as the bagpipes started up was a mix of shock, pride, and “is this really happening right now?”—a reaction that made for some brilliant footage. And then there was the heartfelt hug with his mum afterward, which was the kind of natural, emotional moment you love to catch on camera.
Lucy, meanwhile, was prepping for her own grand entrance with the help of her trusty horse, Bertie. This wasn’t just any entrance—she rode Bertie across a huge field, looking every bit the part of a country bride. When she got to the foot of the aisle, her dad, Bill, was waiting to help her down and walk her the rest of the way. It was one of those “wow” moments where everything comes together: the location, the horse, the dress, and Lucy’s smile. Safe to say, the cameras were eating it up.
The ceremony took place in a woodland glade, which felt like a hidden gem tucked away from the world. With dappled sunlight filtering through the trees and a crowd of beaming guests, it was a fantastic setting to film in. The aisle walk was emotional, the readings were heartfelt, and Lucy and Calum’s reactions to saying “I do” were exactly the kind of genuine moments that make a wedding film shine.
Once the formalities were done, it was time for drinks, lawn games, and plenty of laughs. Calum proved to be weirdly good at cornhole—he was hitting shots like he’d been training for this his whole life—while the dartboard, precariously perched on a wishing well, led to a few lost darts and some very funny plop sounds as they hit the water below. Moments like these are gold for the edit—natural fun and plenty of action to cut between.
Bertie stuck around for the family photos, and honestly, he stole the show. He posed like a pro, looking straight at the camera like he knew this was his moment. The shots with him, Lucy, and Calum are going to be some of the standout moments of the album, no question.
And from that point on, the party was full steam ahead. The dancefloor didn’t empty once, and the mix of country hits and party anthems kept everyone moving.
All in all, this was a wedding that had it all: a bit of drama, a lot of laughs, and so many personal touches that it felt like Calum and Lucy through and through. For us, it was a dream to capture—from the cats at the start of the day to the epic horse cameo to the full-on party at the end. Absolute magic.
"...they felt part of the wedding party and friends! They were such great company and they made us feel completely at ease in front of the camera."
Inside the barn, the wedding breakfast was full of personality. Each table was named after a classic country music hit, a little nod to the couple’s shared taste in music. Speeches came after the main course, and they delivered on every front. Bill, Lucy’s dad, had everyone smiling with his warm and funny tribute. Calum kept it cool and a bit cheeky, while Guy, the best man, had everyone cracking up with just the right amount of roasting. He stalked the room as delivered his speech like a less sardonic Stewart Lee, and we had to abandon all procedure when we realised the static cameras were now useless for this bit 🤣. He rounded the whole thing off with a quick round of Mr & Mrs… a game that never fails to delight the crowd and divide the newlyweds before they’ve even started. Classic.
The first dance was another highlight. Held outdoors in the courtyard under strings of lights, Lucy and Calum swayed to In Case You Didn’t Know by Luke Combs. The track was a perfect fit—romantic without being over the top—and they looked completely at ease. The lights, the music, and their relaxed energy all came together to create a moment that practically filmed itself.
